BANNED BOOKS WEEK: September 24-October 1, 2011


Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

What books have been challenged? LOTS. The top ten challenged books for 2010 were:

) And Tango Makes Three, by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson; 2) The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie; 3) Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley; 4) Crank, by Ellen Hopkins; 5) The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins; 6) Lush, by Natasha Friend; 7) What My Mother Doesn't Know, by Sonya Sones; 8) Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehrenreich; 9) Revolutionary Voices, edited by Amy Sonnie; 10) Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer

BTAB meets this Monday! (Sept. 19, 2011)


The Boulder Teen Advisory Board (BTAB) meets the third Monday of every month.  What do they do?  They make decisions regarding teen services here at the library.  They also give advice to anyone that is looking for teen input.
