Feb. Teen Art Gallery: Angevine Middle School

As Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Angevine’s 7^th and 8^th grade art students will be showing how they are keeping the “child artist” inside them as they grow toward adulthood. In their “Chalk Pastel Landscape,” drawings 7^th and 8^th graders express themselves through the playful use of line, shape, color, space and perspective.

Exibit will run through February.

The Shadow Project, by Herbie Brennan (2010)

The secret door was already open. If it hadn’t been open, Danny wouldn’t even have seen it, and he wouldn’t have found the hidden elevator and been stupid enough to get in—and he wouldn’t have ended up stumbling into the Shadow Project.

While Danny is being interrogated about what he saw and heard in the underground facility, Opal goes on a mission. She is following a tip about the Skull, a highly dangerous terrorist, and the MI6 wants to confirm his location and take him out.

Only a few people are able to leave their bodies and travel to other places, using a second “energy body”. They can move through objects, or even fly. Nobody at the other location can see or hear them, so it’s a great way to spy on someone—completely risk-free and impossible to detect.

Or is it?

Now the Shadow Project staff can’t pull Opal back from her mission. They can tell that she is in pain, but they can’t bring her mind back into her body. This has never happened before and Opal’s father, head of the project, is frantic.

Nobody is available to send after her except Danny, who seems to have enough ability for projection that he might be able to do it without the special electronic implants. But if the enemy has caught Opal, would they be able to capture Danny as well?

BANNED BOOKS WEEK: September 24-October 1, 2011

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

What books have been challenged? LOTS. The top ten challenged books for 2010 were:

The last week of oh so sweet freedom is here and will be gone before the rushing currents of the now diminishing Boulder creek turn back into a slightly over-sized brook. But I will not be afraid of the doors to learning. I will great them, head held high, and embrace another year. Sighhhhhh.
(Gee-I should go to writing class more often.)

William Sleator, Fantasy Writer for Young Adults, Dies at 66

William Sleator, a writer for young people whose books pitted their heroes against aliens, ghouls and slimy things, not to mention the most malevolent rivals of all — siblings — died on Wednesday in Bua Chet, Thailand. He was 66.

July 1, 2011: Paul and Joe did it again-the library was nothing but stones and dust. People complained that they were to loud. People complained that they didn't understand their music. Sad, just sad.

July 9: We watched SuckerPunch in the Canyon Theater due to rain and ate a TON of pizza.
What exactly is SuckerPunch a metaphor for?

Next up: The Rumus Lupins will play July 25, 6:00. They are a metaphor for actualizing your amazing need for never ending Wizard Rock.

Program starts MAY 31.
Every week you will be encouraged to read and if you do you will get candy, free books, and other free stuff.

Bakesale was a success!

Thanks to everyone on the Boulder Teen Advisory Board that helped with the bakesale Friday, April 20th. We had so many baked goodies, we had another bakesale on Sunday! Now we just need to buy food for the Teen Space . . .
